Tosh Style Journal is an independent hair, style and live-events journal for Portsmouth and Southsea. We write about everyday hairstyles, how salon services and pricing usually work, what actually goes into hair products, and the gigs, shows and days out around the city that are worth getting ready for.
What we are – and what we are not
We want to be completely clear about this: we are not a salon. We do not cut or colour hair, we do not take bookings or appointments, and we are not affiliated with any hairdresser, barber or beauty business. If you are looking to book a service, please contact a salon directly. What we offer is independent information to help you make your own choices.

- Everyday Styles – quick, realistic looks for busy weeks and nights out, plus tips on describing what you want to any stylist.
- Price Guide – how UK salon pricing generally works, what changes the cost of a service and the questions to ask before booking. We never publish prices for real salons.
- Product Know-how – shampoos, conditioners, heat protection and styling products explained by ingredient and hair type, without brand endorsements or invented reviews.
- Nights out and days out – guides to local venues such as Portsmouth Guildhall, the Kings Theatre on Albert Road and The Wedgewood Rooms, with ideas for looks that last the evening.
Why Portsmouth and Southsea
The city packs a lot into a small area. Albert Road is known for independent shops, bars and restaurants; Palmerston Road is Southsea's main shopping street, a short walk from the Common and the seafront; and Gunwharf Quays sits on the waterfront beside Portsmouth Harbour station. Between them there is always a reason to dress up, and always sea air to contend with – which is why practical hair advice and local listings sit side by side here.
